It give you a great skill set for any work. I am also combining my history degree with other credentials but I think its the best of both worlds and am really glad I have my history degree. But at the end of the day, survival is even more important. Learning is wonderful, as is personal enrichment. Choose what you study very wisely, you are your own best advocate. They don't give a shit about you, only how much they can make off you. The education industry is an industry, as much as any other. Nothing wrong with the trades, and trades(wo)men are needed and very important to ensure our society runs smoothly. It's not for everyone and it shouldn't be. It is a waste of talent and dragging us down nationally. Kids are being thrown into a system they don't understand, maybe won't survive, can't handle, and will place them in an economic slavery they'll never get out and was never worth it to get into in the first place. Well guess what, many college grads are working at fucking Walmart. Some of them didn't even understand what a noun was, but their entire schooling career (with completely out-of-touch guidance counselors, teachers, and admin) had convinced them that they just had to get a 4 year degree or they'd be working at Walmart. no one had ever told them this info before. I showed them the BLS statistics, wage earnings per career, modes of entry etc. When I asked my students if they knew what they wanted to major in, what career they wanted, if they knew how their loans would work, they couldn't give me an answer. ![]() that's not even worth the price of the paper it's printed on), and I advocated the trades very much so, despite the school only advocating 4-year bachelor degrees. I used to teach high school (and have never found as high a paying job since. If I could back in time to freshman year me, I'd force myself to change my major and change history to a minor.Įdit: my friends who went to trade school out of high school have always and will always earn more than me, unless I, you know, go to trade school too. ![]() ![]() You can always double major, but do something more marketable as well. It's great for personal enrichment, critical thinking, writing and reading skills, and knowledge but not for the job market. History major, and couldn't have said it better than this comment.
